Biography and Early Career

Sean Hannity is an inborn New Yorker, arriving in 1961. He has Irish roots: all his had moved to this country in search for opportunities and better life. His mother worked at prison, and his father, a World War II vet, had a position at a family court. Sean has three siblings, and he is the youngest one. He spent his school years in New York, studied at two universities in New York City and California, but did not finish either.
In the 1980s Hannity went in for house building. He would run companies in Santa Barbara, where he had studied at UC Santa Barbara. It was there, in California, that he debuted as a talk show host at the university’s volunteer college radio station (1989). He hosted it for less than a year, because it was banned due to what some experts believed was his controversial attitude toward the LGBT movement, which he expressed on the show. Sean Hannity left the job and joined another talk show on WVNN in Alabama. In 1992, he joined WGST in Atlanta.

TV and Radio Hosting Career

In 1996, Sean Hannity received and accepted an offer from Roger Ailes of Fox News to host a political TV show. He was to co-host it with Alan Colmes. The two had different political viewpoints. Hannity would express conservative ideas, while his co-host would promote liberal ideas. The project continued until 2009.
Although Hannity was now deeply involved in TV, he would continue to host radio programs. He went to work at WABC in 1997. There he ran a late-night project. However, he got an afternoon slot in early 1998 and continued in it for the next fifteen years. In early 2014, he returned to New York City to host an afternoon program on WOR.
In the fall of 2001, Hannity began to run a show that was named after him and was aired on more than five hundred U.S. stations. It would not take a long while for it to gain popularity, since politics is one of the catchiest subjects attracting a huge percentage of audience. The program has a conservative political focus, where Hannity expresses his conservative political views while highlighting and discussing current political and social events and political personalities. Three years later, he signed a $25 million contract with what today is Citadel media (formerly ABC Radio), thus extending the acting contract until 2009. The show’s popularity skyrocketed. In 2008, he was offered another five-year $100 million deal with the company. By early 2018, the show would boast nearly a weekly audience of all but 14 million listeners. The achievement boosted Hannity’s rankings on Talker Magazine’s lists. In 2003 and 2007, he received an award from a major community of broadcasting companies.
While continuing on with his current project, he launched his own TV show on Fox News. The show starts on Monday and ends on Thursday. During the four days, it airs live episodes. The pre-recorded Friday episode wraps up the news of the day. In this episode Hannity places a specific emphasis on the political and legal aspects of current events and problems.
Apart from TV and radio hosting, Hannity has written a good number of books. The first one came out in 2002, and it focuses on the difference between liberty and liberalism, highlights respective issues and could give ground for solutions. The second one was released in 2004. It a kind of sequels the previous book, extending the list of issues to international terrorism, liberalism, and authoritarianism. The third book that highlights issues that emerged during Barack Obama’s presidency, was published in 2010. All three books took a standing in major bestseller lists. Also, Sean Hannity worked as an executive producer of a drama movie.
